West Kaioshin explaining Broly's strength, in "The terrifying power of the Legendary Super Saiyan!!"

Broly (ブロリー, Burorī), known as the Legendary Super Saiyan (伝説の超サイヤ人 Densetsu no Sūpā Saiya-jin), is a Saiyan from Universe 20 and the son of Paragus. He is the latest incarnation of the Legendary Super Saiyan, an entity feared in Saiyan myth for their destructive incredible power.

During his second confrontation, Gohan and the others missed the sun after using their final combined attack and Broly then returned and killed the Z-Fighters. Eventually, after engaging in a universal-threatening rampage, he was somehow frozen in a massive block of ice.[1][2] In this frozen state, he was later admitted into the Multiverse Tournament for participation.[3]

    Appearance[]

Broly has the exact same appearance just like his canon counterpart from his two movie appearances.

In his normal form, Broly is a lean, yet muscular Saiyan who is slightly taller compared to his father and Goku. Like most members of his race, Broly has black eyes and hair, with the latter being a mullet that extends past his shoulders. Broly is usually seen with a mellowed out look to his face, though he does get excited on occasions. He is also briefly shown wearing his father's power controlling crown until it broke upon becoming the Legendary Super Saiyan.[4] Broly still possesses his tail, even as a adult unlike his canon self.[5]

Upon becoming a Super Saiyan, Broly's muscle mass slightly increases as his hair and eyes change colors (yellow and blue respectively). He is also shown to be grinning sadistically more often as well in this state.[6][7]

Once Broly transforms into his Legendary state, radical alternations happen upon his being. The most obvious change is the fact his height and muscle mass increases exponentially as his eyes become a creamy white with no visible irises. Both his aura and hair becomes green as bio-electricity surges along occasionally with the former. In his Legendary Super Saiyan form, he is extremely muscular and is one of the tallest competitors of the Multiverse Tournament.[8]

    Personality[]

Broly is a violent, psychopathic Saiyan who was ' born insane', but was driven faster to his breaking point after being subjected to the ceaseless crying from Son Goku as an infant.[9]

In DBM, unlike in the DBZ movies, Broly has occasionally shown signs of rational, pondered thought and decisions while in his normal and Super Saiyan forms. This is opposed to the maniacal behavior he shows in the movies where he is not even capable of telling Goten and Goku apart. In his normal state, he possesses cleaner, less haggled speech patterns, but still focuses on getting vengeance for his defeat at the hands of the Z-Warriors.[7][10] And upon beating up Goten and Trunks, Broly immediately recognizes that they are "too small" to be his actual targets.[11] And upon engaging against Vegeta, Broly was enjoying the euphoria from fighting and was not above taunting Vegeta in their duel.[12]

However, when transformed into his Legendary Super Saiyan state, he loses most of his reason.

While in his Legendary Super Saiyan form, he is obsessed with killing Kakarotto and doesn't discern between Goku and Vegetto due to their facial similarity.[13][14] He seldom speaks, and mainly continues calling out "Kakarotto!" but once proclaimed himself as the 'Legendary Warrior'.[15][16] He does not require any need to kill, as he is willing to murder the first few people he sees after awakening from being frozen in cold blood.[17][18] This is followed by Broly attacking the entire stadium indiscriminately.[19][20] Broly's mania is so pervasive that he even killed his own father in cold blood.[21]

    History[]

    Destruction of Planet Vegeta[]

    Baby Broly

    Broly surviving Planet Vegeta's destruction

Broly was born in Age 737, the son of Paragus and the same year and day as Kakarotto. Shortly after his birth, Broly was mentally tortured by Kakarotto's ceaseless crying while they were kept in the Saiyan nursery, which made Broly despise him and seek vengeance.[9]

Due to his power level at birth being a gargantuan 10,000, Freeza became reminded about the legends of the "millennial warrior", fueling Freeza's paranoia.[22] Later on that same year, Freeza destroyed Planet Vegeta with his Supernova attack and the infant Broly saved himself and Paragus by creating a energy shield to protect themselves from the blast, drifting off into outer space.[23]

    Maturation[]

Several years later, Broly and Paragus settled on a few planets and created a small empire, kidnapping a race of small creatures known as Shamoians to use as slaves. Despite Paragus initially being happy with the situation and not intending to do much, he later changed his mind when he learned that Prince Vegeta was still alive on Planet Earth. Deciding to take his revenge out on King Vegeta through his son with plans to take over the Earth, Paragus begins to build a elaborate plan involving a dead planet and a comet to carry out his dark deeds.[23]

The First Meeting with the Legendary Saiyan[]

    Broly first ascension

    Broly first legendary transformation

In Age 767 between the 20th and 26th of May,[24] Paragus arrives on Earth and tricks the Z-Fighters to come to New Planet Vegeta.[25] As certain events unfold with the heroes realizing that the planet is about to be hit by Comet Comori, Broly becomes crazy from Goku's nearby power before freeing himself from his father's restraining device and transforming into the Legendary Super Saiyan.[4] Free from his father's power controlling device, Broly's power continues to grow stronger (while slowly becoming more brutal) while he effortlessly defeated all of the Z-fighters but Goku without receiving a single scratch. After killing his own father as Comet Kumori gets even closer, Broly's power continued to grow, largely influenced due to his profound hatred for Goku.[21] As Broly is laughing at the immanent destruction around him, Piccolo proposes the Genkidama to Goku. Noticing that his father needs a distraction, Gohan readies himself for round 2.[26]

    Broly in trouble

    Broly stunned by the Genkidama

Charging at Broly as Goku prepares the technique, Broly is completely unaffected by Gohan's entire assault.[27] Broly easily incapacitates Gohan in one blow and prepares to kill him once and for all as Goku completes the Genkidama. Before he could accomplish this, Oolong (in Paragus visage) distracts him by appearing on the battlefield.[28] Stunned long enough to not only fail to kill Gohan, but to also be on a collision course for Goku's Genkidama that launched into his face.[29] While being bombarded by the might of the Genkidama and Comet Kumori, Broly briefly remembers himself and Goku as infants.[9] Engulfed by a massive explosion as his ki signature disappears with the danger of the comet being gone, the Z-Fighters relax before teleporting away from the planet, believing that Broly was finally dead.[30]

The Return of the Legendary Saiyan - Healing and Interstellar Travel[]

    Broly journey

Broly recovering and flying to Earth

Managing to survive the incredible explosion caused by the Genkidama and Comet Kumori, Broly lost his Legendary form and briefly drifted in nearby-space before being slowly sucked back into New Planet Vegeta via gravity. Over the course of six years, Broly was completely alone as he slowly recuperates back into fighting shape. After replenishing his strength, Broly became a Super Saiyan and heads for Earth to kill his hated archenemy. Despite being able to detect their power levels, Broly was forced to venture through Outer Space without any air or starship. Upon reaching Planet Earth, Broly allows himself to lose consciousness (exhaustion and lack of air did him in) as he drifts into Earths orbit.[6]

Eventually he plunges into the ocean to slumber, thus the events to initiate Broly: Second Coming commences.

The Return of the Legendary Saiyan - Second Coming[]

    Broly second chance

    Broly surviving against death

"Indeed, in Universes 4, 16, and 18... Fallen in the Sun Broly untransformed and died instantly. But in Universe 20... Broly's life had a stroke of luck..."
    — The narrator, in "The return of the Legendary Saiyan!!"

    Broly revival

    Broly being revived

In Age 774 between the 20th of April and the 7th of May on Earth,[31] Broly is awoken from his deep slumber in the middle of the ocean when a powerful tsunami hits him (that was created by Goten and Trunks in search for the Dragon Balls). Upon gathering his thoughts, Broly believes he senses the ki of Future Trunks and Goku, and decides to find them.[10] After flying for a bit, Broly becomes ecstatic when he sees two figures who he believes that are his two hated enemies. Powering up into a Super Saiyan with cackling glee, he instantly plows through Goten and Kid Trunks with great power.[7] Wasting no time, Broly punches Trunks in the face and knees Goten in his stomach, making the former fall into the ocean unconscious. Broly then realizes that they both seem too "small" to be his true targets.[11] Broly decides to choke the life out of Goten, which leaves the young child defenseless in his hands.[32] Kicking Goten in the ocean as well, thus instantly becoming unconscious, immediately after Broly notices the arrival of SSJ Vegeta before being punched in the face, losing copious amounts of blood.[33]

    Broly second ascension

    Broly second legendary ascension

Bleed profusely but recovering from the attack with a evil smile on his face, Broly manages to block Vegeta's kick before punching him hard in his gut.[34] As some time goes on, both Super Saiyans are next shown to be clashing with all of their might in a fiery explosive dance in the sky.[35] When both warriors lock arms with each other, Broly is amused that "Prince" Vegeta is no longer afraid of him, which Vegeta retorts by smugly saying that he amazed that Broly even remembered how to talk. At that exact moment, SSJ Gohan busts out of the ocean and instantly rams his entire body into Broly's stomach, thus surprising Vegeta.[12] When Gohan regroups with Vegeta and tells him that they must defeat Broly before he ascends into his legendary state, Broly catches on to Gohan's plan when he recovers and excitingly begins to transform into his Legendary Super Saiyan form.[36]

    Broly power Increase

    Broly doubling his power

Upon finishing his transformation, he is instantly punched in the chin by Vegeta, but is completely unaffected by his might, leaving Vegeta shocked from his ineffective attack.[37] Broly punches him in the face, sending bloody spittle flying everywhere as Vegeta soars to the wayside.[38] Charging up a ki blast to injure Vegeta even further, Broly is interrupted by SSJ2 Gohan (attains this state upon seeing Goten's injured body) who begins to wail on him with righteous anger as Piccolo comments that Gohan is stronger for now.[39] After getting beaten up for a little bit, Broly's ki increases once again which knocks back even Gohan upon powering up.[40] With the tides turned once again, Broly is shown to be getting the upper hand on Gohan as Goku from Otherworld senses his energy.[41] Broly continues to wail on Gohan as both Vegeta and Goku prepare their attacks on Broly.[42]

    Broly second defeat

    Broly heading to the sun

Having his grip on Gohan's head and before he could continue his assault, Broly is attacked by Piccolo from behind, thus freeing Gohan from Broly's grasp. Telling Gohan he is taking his place, Piccolo begins to wail on Broly, who is completely unaffected from his attacks.[43] Growing irksome from the worm he is facing, Broly begins to sadistically torture Piccolo by choking him and ripping out his right arm.[44] But to his horror, Broly is suddenly attacked by two Kamehameha's (SSJ2 Gohan and SSJ3 Goku) and SSJ Vegeta's Final Flash, thus freeing Piccolo from Broly's vice grip. The combined energy waves then leave the atmosphere on a trajectory course straight to the sun, with Broly being unable to do anything to escape from his ordeal.[45]

Luckily for Broly, his life had a stroke of luck when he narrowly missed hitting the Sun, thus he continues to fly forward into the deep reaches of space once again.[5]

The End of the Entire Universe[]

    Broly third coming

    Broly third coming

In Age 786 (thus 12 years have passed since his defeat),[46] Broly's mere presence and arrival causes Goku to panic by teleporting everyone to Kame's Island, Gohan failing to save Pan and Videl from his crash, Earth suffering from Broly's arrival that has Kulilin lose faith while Goku ordering Goten to protect Chi-Chi as he becomes a Super Saiyan, and Vegeta transforming into a Super Saiyan 2 while wishing to face Broly.[47] As Vegeta watches West City burn to the ground as both Piccolo and Dende witness the destruction of Earth, Broly, already in his Legendary Super Saiyan state, smirks in the crater he has made from his landing.[48] With most of the world in ruins,[49] Broly stands up straight and begins to laugh manically before Goku confronts him in his Super Saiyan 3 transformation. Broly is then attacked from behind by Gohan.[50]

    Broly vs Gotenks

    Broly defeating Gotenks

Quickly turning around, Broly receives several punches from Gohan as he and Goku prepare to strike Broly with a much stronger melee attack.[51] Receiving them, Broly appears to be no worse for wear.[52] Smirking since he no worse for wear, Broly grabs Gohan's head and begins crushing it, forcing Goku to teleport them both away to save his life, leaving Broly slightly surprised.[53] Sometime later after confronting his arch enemies in addition to Gotenks and Vegeta, Broly is seen battling against Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks before punching him away through several mountains. As Vegeta charges at him as a Super Saiyan 2, Broly smirks at the challenge.[54]

    Broly resisting the kamehameha

    Broly overpowering Goku's Kamehameha

Trying to grab Vegeta, he misses as Vegeta hops over him before turning around and chasing after the Saiyan prince, seemingly oblivious as Goku and Gohan charge a Father-Son Kamehameha.[55] Seeing the combined blast aiming at him, Broly faces it before catching it with a single arm, which seemingly stops the blast dead in it tracks.[56] As Goku and Gohan pour more power into it, Broly uses his second arm to assist him, but Vegeta's consecutive energy blasts distracts Broly long enough to allow Goku and Gohan to further power it that begins to overpower Broly.[57] Flying towards the sun, Broly begins to dig his arms into the blast.[58] As a massive explosion occurs that seemingly engulfs Broly, Goku quickly becomes alarmed since it appears his ki has already rose.[59] As the smoke clears, Broly is shown to be smirking as burn marks sizzle off from his skin.[60]

The Alliance of the Greatest Fighters[]

    Broly penultimate increase

Broly becomes frustrated at Majin Buu

Still smoking from the previous attack, Broly lands on the ground while maintaining his smirk. This makes Goku and Gohan panic as a new fighter enters the ring.[61] Broly then witnesses Buu absorb all the Saiyans to attain his 'Ultra' state.[62] Undeterred, Broly smirks at the prospect of a challenge as Buu charges and successfully lands a punch into his gut.[63] Skidding some ways back, Broly is then kicked in the neck by Buu.[64] Getting punched all over his body by Buu, Broly is subsequently strangled before having multiple stomp kicks land all over his gut.[65] Now yelling, Broly grabs Buu's torso before hearing the djinn proclaiming himself to be more 'broken' before liquefying his body to escape Broly's grasp, which momentarily shocked Broly.[66] Visibly enraged, Broly yells again while powering up to increase his power.[67]

    Broly on a destroyed earth

    Broly on a destroyed Earth

When Buu attempts to grab him to take them both for a 'trip', Broly quickly fires a energy blast at Buu, shocking the djinn as a mighty explosion occurs.[68] With Buu greatly damaged, Broly blasts him again which destroys half of Earth.[69] With Buu in complete shock and believing he is about to die with the Earth a virtual wasteland, Broly is visibly annoyed that Buu is still alive and prepares a third blast to finish him off.[70] But with Uub coming in with his Kaio-ken max activated, he successfully punches Broly's shoulder, causing Broly to stagger.[71] Losing control of his own attack, it detonates that utterly destroys all of Earth.[72] With the arena now being a mere asteroid belt in the middle of space in place of the ruined Earth, Uub's deceased body floats away from Broly as the Legendary Saiyan cackles. Seeing Buu again and stating that breathing is likely now optional for the Legendary Saiyan, Broly gleefully points a arm at the djinn in preparation of blasting him into oblivion.[73]

    Broly universal destruction

Broly after defeating the Z-Fighters for the final time

But before he could do so, a piece of Buu lands on Broly's shoulder before teleporting them both next to a Super Massive Black Hole in the center of the galaxy.[74] Experiencing unfathomable levels of gravity, both Broly and Buu are stretched and simply disappear almost instantaneously. But luckily for Broly, a deviation from other universes where the scenario occurred with the heroes won, here Broly managed to concentrate enough ki where not even the black hole could no longer contain him. Feeling the energy of other galaxies, Broly travels at impossible speeds and proceeds to destroy the entire universe.[75]

    Universal Rampage[]

After slaughter the existing Z-Fighters after his miraculous survival in their last duel to achieve ultimate victory, Broly will go on a rampage at the universe's level.[1] The level of destruction is so absolute that not even planets remain anymore.[76] After an unknown period of time of Broly managing to destroy everything in his universe, he "died" in the void of space and became frozen solid in a block of ice through unknown means.[2]

While in this frozen state, Broly was found by the Vargas and admitted into the Multiverse Tournament for participation.[3]

    Multiverse Tournament[]

First Round: Lots of Old Foes Here[]

Once the members of Universe 19 made their debut to the public, Pan points towards the entrance of Universe 20.[77] Found by the Vargas while encased in a block of ice, his mere presence alone makes most of the members in Universe 18 become extremely nervous.[3] Despite their fears and concerns, the leading Vargas isn't worried since they want Broly to participate if he is alive and reveals they found him already frozen in the void of space although a Namek organizer thinks it a very bad idea to resurrect him. However Goku remains unconvinced, finding it hard to fathom that they will willingly bring such a 'monster' in the first place, though Gohan remains more worried about Cell.[78]

First Round: The Lunch Break we've all Waited for[]

Once the lunch break was announced, Broly was shown to still be at the exact same location he was last shown in his universe's balcony.[79] When the lunch break was announced to end in ten minutes, Broly was scheduled to face Vegetto from Universe 16.[80] Broly is later monitored by the Vargas in the control tower, now knowing his name and ignoring the Namek's concerns for revival since they can always eject him back into his Universe.[81] Raditz becomes interested in seeing Broly in action, though Nappa thinks he may not even wake up.[82]

    Broly freedom

    Broly free from his prison

With the team set up, a Namekian begins the process to melt the ice surrounding Broly. Upon seeing some of the ice crack open, a Vargas touching it senses that Broly's pulse is still beating, thus indicating he is alive. But before the Vargas could go any further, Broly breaks through the ice with his arm and immediately grabs the Vargas.[17] Choking the Vargas who has helped freed him, immediately after Broly slams the Vargas against his icy prison, killing him instantly as the Namek organizer back away in complete fear.[18] Wasting no time, Broly powers up which not only destroys the remains of his icy tomb, but also frightens many people around the tournament grounds.[83] Finally stabilized, Broly is at full power as his aura burns brightly around him.[8] Grinning manically much to the chagrin of everyone else, Broly goes on a rampage and begins attacking the audience and competitors with a volley of energy blasts.[19] The likes of South Kaioshin, both Gohan's, Cell, Bojack, Gast Carcolh, Kakarotto, and Trunks either manage to successfully defend or remain impartial to the destruction around them.[20] While continuing to release his energy blasts, Broly is prevented to return back into his universe by the Vargas thanks to a ploy created by Zen Buu. As his mania begins to die down from the massive amount of destruction he is causing, Broly suddenly realizes the presence of Goku of Universe 18, much to the latter's shock. Overjoyed at the idea to finally kill his archenemy, Broly rushes towards Goku.[13]

    Broly vs

    Vegetto vs. Broly

First Round: The Terrifying Power of the Legendary Super Saiyan[]

    Broly Dash

    Broly dashing to Vegetto

Still closing in on Goku, as Goku immediately becomes a Super Saiyan 3 for his immediate confrontation, right before Broly could throw his right punch at Goku's face, he is immediately intercepted by Vegetto's 'Spirit Sword'.[84] Touching the sword with no ill effects, Broly looks at the ring and sees whom fired it from the floating arena, which is Vegetto. Upon witnessing Vegetto slightly changing his visage to appear more like Goku while claiming to be the real Kakarotto, Broly is swayed by his deception and yells at him.[14] Immediately charging at Vegetto to kill his hated archenemy once and for all, much to Goku's relief, Broly rushes towards Vegetto at max speed as Vegetto immediately becomes a Super Saiyan and is pleased to face the legendary warrior "at last".[85]

When Broly is right on top of Vegetto, he throws a powerful right punch at him, though Vegetto dodges it which results in half the destruction of the arena. Before Broly could make a follow up to his attack, Vegetto is right behind him.[86] Immediately kicking Broly in the face, Vegetto proceeds to pound on Broly's entire being for some time.[87] Suddenly, Broly catches both of Vegetto's fist before kneeing him in the gut.[88] As Vegetto coughs up spittle, Broly follows up with a double haymaker that forces him right through the rest of the floating arena, making Vegetto trying to recover in a comical fashion.[89] Broly rushes at him in the name of killing Kakarotto, but Vegetto dodges his right punch before back handing him very hard in the mouth.[15] Slightly injured, Broly tries to punch him again, but Vegetto catches it before hurtling Broly right through a giant chunk of the remaining arena.[90] When Broly finally recovers mid-flight, Vegetto teleports right behind him much to Broly's shock.[91] When Vegetto launches his 'Big Bang Attack', Broly is completely engulfed by it's power before being bombarded by it's mighty explosion.[92] While still enshrouded in smoke, Vegetto tells Broly to come on out since he knows he wants more.[93] When the smoke finally clears, Broly is shown to be enraged despite suffering some damage. Claiming to be the "Legendary Warrior", Broly doubles his ki instantly as Vegetto wishes to see his maximum power.[16]

Stronger than ever now, Broly rushes towards Vegetto and manages to punch him square in his jaw, causing bloody spittle to fly everywhere. With clean openings in sight, Broly begins to pound at Vegetto's entire body as his injuries become more severe by the passing second.[94] To put his finishing touch, Broly slams Vegetto right through the floor of the tournament grounds with a powerful right hook.[95] Overjoyed by the destruction he has caused, Broly begins to laugh hysterically while flaring his aura, which causes many competitors to fear for his overwhelming power.[96] However, Broly is suddenly interrupted by the return of Vegetto who has decided to show his true power for the first time since his fusion.[97] Now as a Super Saiyan 2, Vegetto declares this to be Round 2 as Broly rushes towards Vegetto once again to resume their battle. Upon being in Vegetto's vicinity once again, Broly threw a left punch, though Vegetto dodges it by flying up.[98] Wasting no time, Vegetto kicked Broly right in his chin followed by consecutive left jabs in his face. Annoyed by Vegetto's tactics, Broly grabs his head before violently headbutting him right in his forehead.[99] After clobbering his forehead a few more times, Broly is kicked by Vegetto once again before he could throw another headbutt. Vegetto then backs away upon escaping Broly's grasp.[100] Vegetto sprints forward and punches Broly right in his cheek. Surprisingly, Broly does the same thing to Vegetto, which is followed by them both punching each other in the face relentlessly.[101] After brawling for a bit which amazes the likes of Vegeta and Gohan, both warriors each throw a mighty punch.[102] Clashing their fists together, which creates a epic flash of explosive light around their vicinity, both are in a deadlock as the smoke clears.[103][104]

After locking eyes for a bit, Broly begins to charge his Omega Blaster while showing signs of agitation.[105] As Vegetto charges his Big Bang Kamehameha upon backing away, Broly unleashes his ultimate attack.[106] With their energy blasts fully charged, both warriors threw their signature attacks at each other, which creates a epic sphere of destruction upon clashing against each other.[107][108]

    First Round: Vegetto's Last Resources[]

    Broly Injured

    Broly injured by Vegetto's attack.

When the dust finally settles, both warriors were gone since they were throw at the opposite direction of each other at thousands of miles. Slammed against a asteroid while sporting some new damage to his being, Broly only mutters "Kakarotto" before he flies back to the tournament.[109] And according to both Android 16 and Zen Buu, Broly's ki increased again which now eclipses SSJ2 Vegetto.[110] As Broly gets closer to the arena, Vegetto has managed to teleport back while Piccolo darkly notes that Broly is indeed stronger than Vegetto now.[111] Upon becoming a Super Saiyan 3, Vegetto uses his Final Dragon Flash that on a collision course against Broly.[112] Closer than ever to the arena, Broly confronts Vegetto's attack that takes the form of a dragon.[113] Swallowed whole just before he could pierce through the planet's atmosphere, Broly is bombarded by the technique's might, only muttering "Kakarotto" before he is sent to the far reaches of space once again.[114]

Officially declared defeated by the tournament committee,[115] Broly is next seen when Zen Buu teleports to him since he wants to add Broly's collective power to his own. Unconscious and incapacitated by Vegetto's attack, albeit still in his legendary form, Broly is paralyzed to do anything as Zen Buu prepares to absorb him. Luckily for Broly, Vegetto intervenes Buu to prevent him from being absorbed by the evil Majin.[116] Vegetto later destroys parts of Buu that was discreetly arriving towards Broly.[117]

First Round: What's left of a Cyborg without Humanity (Banishment)[]

After Vegetto and Zen Buu fight for some time, both Son Bra and Gohan join the fight against Buu as well, which also prevents a squadron of Buu's heads of approaching Broly.[118] Broly remains trapped as the main body of Buu engages against Bra and Gohan.[119] As the trio fight off Buu for some time, Broly is almost absorbed by miniature copies of Zen Buu, though Gohan manages to prevent such a fate for Broly.[120] When Bra decides to use Super Saiyan 2, Broly remains motionless in his energy prison.[121] As Zen Buu finally manages to win against his fight against the warriors of Universe 16, the Vargas used their repaired universal-return device to send the unconscious Broly back to his own universe, never to be seen or heard from again.[122]

    Multiverse Tournament (References)[]

    Second Round: Enemies Forever[]

Broly is referred to by Dr. Raichi when his ghost counterpart becomes a Super Saiyan and Raichi reveals he has the same power as the one from Universe 20.[123]

Second Round: Corruption of the Absolute Evil[]

Despite not being shown at all in the Second Round, he was briefly mentioned by Goku and Gohan from Universe 18 when Porunga was summoned. When Goku states his fear of Broly somehow getting resurrected with the other deceased, Gohan summarizes that it is likely impossible since Broly is literally inside of his original universe.[124]

    Third Round: Drop the Act[]

Despite not appearing, Buu refers him when coming to the conclusion that Vegetto could have won much easier if he used more of his unique and advanced techniques.[125] When his ghost counterpart from Universe 3 is summoned to fight against Gast Carcolh, it terrifies those from Universe 18.[126]

    Power & Abilities[]

    Childhood[]

Broly was born with a power level of 10,000.[127]

    Legendary Super Saiyan[]

In Age 767,[24] Broly upon becoming the Legendary Super Saiyan was so powerful that he was able to defeat the entire Z-Fighters without receiving a single scratch thanks to his invulnerability. Becoming stronger without logic as each second passes, Broly killed Paragus as Vegeta, Trunks, and Piccolo were unable to continue. Only Goku remained standing as Gohan regained his resolve to continue the brawl.[4][21][26] Despite Gohan's valiant efforts, he remained unable to injure Broly as the Legendary Saiyan defeated him in one blow.[27][28] His augmented strength was only beaten upon being struck by a Genkidama filled with pure raw energy that collided against Comet Kumori, thus guaranteeing his defeat.[9][29][30]

    Legendary Super Saiyan - Statements[]

Despite his incredible power and invulnerability, Goku does say that Broly doesn't really know how to fight or how to use his strength properly. Due to these findings, Goku doesn't compare him to Perfect Cell.[30] Whether it due to his lack of training or mania via LSSJ remains to be seen, or even both.

    Second Coming[]

    Broly Lariat

    Broly striking Goten and Trunks

Upon waking up and transforming into the basic Super Saiyan form, Broly was able to easily overwhelm Goten and Trunks with a simple Lariat.[7][10] Broly then finishes Trunks and further wounds Goten with simple attacks.[11][32] And after finishing Goten, Broly was able to endure a attack from SSJ Vegeta before retaliating with equal force.[33][34]

    Broly vs Vegeta

    Broly versus Vegeta

Immediately afterwards both Vegeta and Broly were complete equals while being in the same state.[35] And once in a arms gridlock, Broly was only overwhelmed when Gohan interferes as a Super Saiyan too.[12] The newfound challenge forced Broly to ascend into his Legendary state to even the odds.[36]

Once fully transformed, Broly becomes immune to Vegeta's attack and manages to grievously injure him with a single punch.[37][38] He was only unable to finish him off once Gohan intervenes and starts attacking him as a Super Saiyan 2. Even Piccolo acknowledges that Gohan became the 'strongest', thus he surpassed Broly at this moment in time.[39] However this was short lived since Broly's power level increased again exponentially.[40] Broly is then shown to be easily overwhelming Gohan in a frenzy series of punches.[41] When Gohan is nearly helpless in his hands, Broly battles against Piccolo and remains unharmed from his power.[42][43] Broly then easily brutalizes Piccolo without much difficulty.[44]

Broly is only defeated when a combined blast consisting of SSJ Vegeta, SSJ2 Gohan, and SSJ3 Goku pushes him deep within space.[45] Yet due to sheer luck, he escapes true death by not colliding against the sun.[5]

    Second Coming - Statements[]

Piccolo admits that Broly cannot be beaten "the normal way" thanks to his unique gifts.[40]

When his power increases as a Legendary Super Saiyan in a bid to overwhelm SSJ2 Gohan, Goku could sense Broly's power level all the way from Otherworld.[41] King Kaio also views Broly as a sufficient level of danger to the whole universe, thus permits Goku to return to Earth for one second.[42]

Vegeta initially believes that Broly is no match for him despite becoming the Legendary Saiyan due to the trials of Perfect Cell seven years ago. However this is proven to be false when Broly easily overwhelms Vegeta.[37][38]

Only the sun is powerful enough to undo the Legendary form and kill Broly, though Broly avoided such a demise thanks to sheer luck.[5]

    Universal Rampage[]

At some point in time, Broly becomes strong enough to not only kill the Z-Fighters, but also systematically destroy his universe.[1] Due to this despite being sealed within ice, Broly is deemed the strongest by the Vargas and was permitted to enter the Multiverse Tournament.[3]

    Tournament - First Round[]

Broly is considered to be one of the strongest characters to appear in the entire tournament.

Even when trapped inside of his icy prison, his presence alone was deemed the strongest from his entire universe to participate in the tournament.[3] The likes of Son Goku started to sweat bullets from sheer nervousness. When partially released from his prison, Broly was durable enough to move swiftly despite not moving in years, to kill a Vargas and blow up the rest of his prison by simply powering up.

    Broly vs Goku

    Broly facing Goku

After his initial power up upon being free, Broly was so strong that Goku knew he would not win against him despite instantly becoming a Super Saiyan 3. But upon engaging Vegetto as a Super Saiyan, Broly was initially overpowered by his might. But after powering up again to double his ki in the name of being the "Legendary Warrior", Broly became strong enough to overwhelm SSJ Vegetto, and to fight on par with SSJ2 Vegetto.

After finishing their clash via signature techniques, Broly's ki doubles once again, thus eclipsing Vegetto's strength even as a SSJ2. Broly is only defeated permanently when Vegetto becomes a SSJ3 and uses his ultimate technique, but still survives while being in his Legendary state.

    First Round - Statements[]

Despite seeing Broly's power level eclipsing even Vegetto as a Super Saiyan 2, Zen Buu remains confident that he could still defeat Broly in mortal combat.[110]

Loopwhirl believes that their 'secret weapon' can easily kill Broly.[128] This was later shown to be Carbonite, which Goku confirms it lethality while watching Bra's fight against Eleim.[129] In Universe 3, Broly indeed was killed from it, thus proving such a statement as being true.[130]

    Third Round - Statements[]

Goku believes that Buu is just as strong as Broly when he was about to battle Gotenks, which showed just how strong Broly really was compared to most.[131]

Zen Buu believes that had Vegetto used any of his unique 'novel' techniques instead of using his full power in the old school fashion, he would have won against Broly much easier.[125]

    Author Statements[]

Due to Salagir finding Broly 'cool', he made him at Vegetto's level due to being inspired from his fight against Gogeta from the intro of Budokai 3.[2]

Salagir believes that Broly is "The Strongest" since his power infinitely grows despite not being the main villain in the comic. However he also admits that Broly is very crazy and doesn't fight very skillfully.[132]

Broly isn't the quick type, so he may not react fast enough depending on what stimulating him.[133] Broly also never trains, thus is not a skilled fighter and only hits hard from sheer instinct. If he was skilled at fighting, he would be a much deadlier menace.[134]

Getting hit in the groin won't affect Broly since that part is also indestructible.[135]

When battling Vegetto, Broly's LSSJ lifespan is certainly that of two weeks, maybe even a month. But no matter what, it definitely less than a year. Also due to being the Legendary Saiyan, Broly doesn't really need to eat and can survive in the vacuum of space for a very long time. Dragon Balls cannot also affect Broly in a negative wish such as taking away his invulnerability.[136]

Thanks to his invulnerability, the sun cannot actually hurt Broly. But it can serve as his coffin since it gravity is huge and eventually Broly will perish from within, largely due to his naturally short lifespan once transformed. On a unrelated note, 'physical' shocks cannot knock him out of his Legendary state, it has to be 'psychological', which includes falling into the sun. So powerful blows to the head won't will never be strong enough to knock out Broly.[137][138]

Although it remains unseen, but if Broly was able to breathe and continue growing stronger against Vegetto, eventually Broly will grow so powerful that the sun will no longer become traumatic enough to disable him. At that point it will take larger stars like Canis Majoris, but if Broly surpasses that, then a black hole will become necessary to defeat Broly. However currently Broly is indeed not stronger than a black hole, though still powerful enough to completely ruin his universe.[137]

During the first special, Broly was close to the level of a Super Saiyan 2 around the end before he was defeated. When he returned seven years later, Broly was almost "SSJ3+" levels [stronger than SSJ3 Goku, maybe even SSJ3 Gotenks] before being defeated again. And when battling against Vegetto, Salagir believes that a sun may not be traumatic enough for Broly anymore.[138]

According to the official tier list, Broly at the end of his battle against Vegetto is truly equivalent to Vegetto as a Super Saiyan 2 and Zen Buu.[139]

    Traits[]

True Invincibility: Long Broly remains in his legendary state, it is impossible to hurt Broly in any fashion, though he can be stunned.[140][141]

Forever increasing ki: Long Broly remains in his legendary state and can breathe[142] and remain alive, his ki will always increase in exponential bouts with each passing minute.[2][140][141]

Zenkai: The ability to grow stronger after surviving a near death experience.

Enhanced lung capacity and stamina: When transformed as a Super Saiyan, Broly was able to travel from New Planet Vegeta to Earth with no air or starship in a undisclosed amount of time.[6] However if left in the vacuum of space while being in base and exhausted for too long, Broly can still die like his counterparts from Universe 6 and Universe 17.[143]

    Techniques[]

Flight: The ability to levitate by manipulating one's ki. Broly used this multiple times over his life, with the most iconic being when he flew through the Universe from New Planet Vegeta to Earth to exact his revenge against Goku.[6]

Ki Sensing: The ability to locate power levels from far away. Broly used this to track down who he believed was Goku and Trunks upon waking up from his coma.[144]

Crushing in Hands: A strength technique where the user chokes a opponent much smaller than them. Was used to further incapacitate Goten in his Second Coming.[32]

Lariat: Powerful physical move where the user clothesline his opponent. Was used to defeat Goten and Trunks simultaneously.[7]

Revenge Demon: Brutal rush attack where Broly assaults his victim before violently tossing them towards the ground. Broly used a variant after doubling his ki,[16] where he proceeded to pummel Vegetto before slamming him into the ground.[94][95]

Ki Blast: A powerful blast of energy that fired from the hands. Broly attempted to use this to kill Vegeta in his Second Coming.[39]

Energy Shield: Energized barrier that is used to protect the user from external harm. Was used to save himself and Paragus from Planet Vegeta's destruction and roam through empty outer space.[23]

Trap Shooter: A one-handed discharge of continuous energy bullets. Upon breaking free from his icy prison, Broly then launches this technique which kills many workers and spectators, though some are deflected by the participators.[19][20]

Omega Blaster: Broly's most power technique, which begins as a small green sphere and immensely expands when in contact with a solid object. Broly used a variant where it automatically started off at a decent size and didn't need to constantly charge it up with smaller ki blasts. Broly used this technique to counter Super Saiyan 2 Vegetto's Big Bang Kamehameha.[105][106][107] Though both attacks cancelled each other out, the force of the explosion sends both combatants flying thousands of miles from the ring, severely wounding Vegetto and annoying Broly.[108][109]

    Transformations[]

    Oozaru[]

    Main article: Oozaru

Due to still possessing his tail, Broly indeed could still use this form.[5] If used, the users power level is multiplied by 2x.[145][146] It remains unseen and unknown if Broly has ever used it at any point in time.

    Super Saiyan[]

    Main article: Super Saiyan
    Super Saiyan Broly

    Super Saiyan Broly

A powerful and iconic transformation that multiplies the users power level by fifty fold.[147] Broly briefly uses this form to travel to Earth after recovering from his original defeat on New Planet Vegeta.[6] Upon waking up from his coma, Broly incapacitates Goten and Trunks before fighting Vegeta that was soon interrupted from Gohan's intervention.[7][12][35]

    Legendary Super Saiyan[]

    Main article: Legendary Super Saiyan
    Broly (all universes)

    Broly Legendary State

Broly's most powerful form that is unique to him due to being the Legendary Saiyan. He is indestructible while in his Legendary Super Saiyan form, but he can be forced out of the form through shock. His power rises by itself, allowing him to grow stronger virtually indefinitely. It was used on the battle of New Planet Namek, on Earth to exact his revenge, to destroy his entire Universe over many years, and to battle Vegetto in the Multiverse Tournament upon being free.

    Transformations (Former)[]

    Super Saiyan (Power Limiter)[]

Thanks to the Power Limiter he was forced to wear by his father, Broly always took on a discolored and weaker version of the first Super Saiyan state. It was lost forever when Broly destroyed the limiter upon transforming into the Legendary Super Saiyan form to fight Goku.[4]

It exact power multiplication remains unknown.

    Transformations (non-canon)[]

    Super Saiyan 3[]

    Main article: Super Saiyan 3

Broly's Super Saiyan 3 form was mentioned in the minicomics.[148]

    Super Saiyan 4[]

Broly is mentioned to achieve this form in the minicomics.[148]

    Fusion (non-canon)[]

    Piccolo Merger[]

Agreeing to fuse with Piccolo to assist with opening a pickle jar, the fusion goes on to further fuse with Omega Shenron and SSJ4 Gogeta before attempting to merge with God himself.[149]

    Equipment (Former)[]

    Power Limiter Device[]

A mind control device that not only makes Broly susceptible to Paragus commands, but also limits his overall power level. Broly wore such a contraption for many years. It was only destroyed when Goku's presence drew him over the edge.

    Trivia[]

    • Broly is ultimately a reimagined version that originally appeared in DBZ movies 8 and 10.[140][150][151] And due to canonicity issues related to DBM, the likes of Bio-Broly from the 11th movie, Broly from Dragon Ball Super, Dark / Xeno Broly from Dragon Ball Heroes, and Universe's 6 counterpart named Kale also from Dragon Ball Super do not apply to DBM's Broly at any capacity.[150] This includes similarities to other characters that appeared or was mentioned in canon media such as Yamoshi or Kanba / Cumber, the first Super Saiyan or powerful ancient Saiyan respectively.[150]
    • Broly doesn't possess the old scar wound like he did from canon from a knife attack as a baby, thus this weakness isn't applied to him.[76]
    • Broly was originally in his normal form when found by the Vargas inside his ice Prison. However Salagir told Gogeta Jr to change it into him being in his Legendary Super Saiyan form.[152] Uniquely Broly was once again shown to be covered in ice in base, in addition to still possessing his mind control device.[153]
    • Several unique sciences are applied to Broly in DBM. Thanks to being the Legendary Saiyan that born every 1,000 years, Broly is very strong compared to most, loves violence and is inhabited by rage, can become a Super Saiyan very easily, and has a special transformation called "Legendary Super Saiyan". And when in said state, Broly gains unique characteristics (white eyes, huge muscles, and green aura), becomes totally blinded with rage and seeks violence, becomes indestructible (attacks cannot hurt him, though he can be pushed away), his power level grows constantly, cannot revert to normal form unless a great shock occurs to him, and his lifetime drops dramatically though each successive generation slowly reduces this weakness.[76][140]
    • Despite being invincible in the Legendary Super Saiyan state, it remains unknown if Broly is truly impervious to Buu's absorption mechanism or Candy Beam, Dabra's Stone Spit, Syd's Gender Eye, Devilman's Devilmite Beam, Captain Ginyu's Body Change technique, Babidi's Majinization control, or even the Mafuba sealing spell. Also it is unknown if Broly can be 'shocked' out of his Legendary Form if caught in a planet's explosion, thrown into a planetary core, falls into a black hole, or bombarded by a supernova. This includes special techniques that may be possessed by individuals such as Zen Buu or XXI.
    • Despite being invincible to damage, Asura, the current main artist for DBM, drew Broly injured for the official banner of the website while battling SSJ3 Vegetto.[154]
    • It unknown if Broly is still susceptible to pain if his tail is grabbed at any capacity.
    • As it is shown, Broly hasn't mastered the first Super Saiyan form or Legendary Super Saiyan (if such a feat is even possible). Broly likely hasn't mastered Oozaru either. And among the Saiyan transformations, Broly hasn't achieved Super Saiyan Second Grade, Super Saiyan Third Grade, Super Saiyan 2, Super Saiyan 3, or Golden Oozaru. This includes unique forms like Gohan's Mystic form or fusion.
    • Since stories such as Dragon Ball GT, Dragon Ball Super, and Dragon Ball Heroes aren't canon to Dragon Ball Multiverse, transformations that appears there doesn't and won't be applied to Broly. Thus having Ikari or Super Saiyan 4 isn't possible. This applies to unique forms seen in other media such as "God Broly", Majinization's Destruction King, Villainous Mode, and Supervillain Mode.[150]
    • Similar to Brasca,[155] Queen Hanasia,[156] and Kakarotto,[157] Broly has the potential to become a "Golden Oozaru" since he still has his tail. However due to his Legendary potential, it remains unknown if it will be different or ordinary since Brasca, a former Legendary Saiyan, gained no unique properties when he ascended.
    • It is unknown Broly has or will in future chapters (if he comes back) will use certain techniques he has displayed in canon media such as Bloody Smash, Bone Crusher (Bear Hug), Torture Hold, Telekinesis, Eraser Cannon, Double Eraser Cannon, Eraser Shot Valley, Blaster Meteor, Eraser Blow, Gigantic Eraser, Gigantic Buster, Gigantic Slam, Gigantic Spike, Gigantic Press, Gigantic Charge (Dashing Punch), Gigantic Throw, Gigantic Hammer, Planet Geyser, Exploding Wave (Seismic Power), Omega Blaster (Super Exploding Wave), Planet Crusher, Gigantic Omega, Gigantic Destruction, Super Gigantic Cannon, Gigantic Impact (Wrathful Charge), Gigantic Breath, Gigantic Roar, Gigantic Catastrophe, Gigantic Full Blast, Gigantic Omegastorm, and Gigantic Cluster.
    • In one minicomic upon being released as a basic Super Saiyan, Broly comically goes insane when he sees Goku, Goten, Kakarotto, Baddack, another Goten, Vegetto, and other characters that no longer resemble Goku due to his breach in sanity.[158]
    • In the minicomics, Broly comically asks Goku for his autograph, making the heroic Saiyan to fall on his back in shock.[159]
    • In another minicomic, the likes of Freeza, Cell, Buu, and King Piccolo have a low opinion on Broly since he only cares about beating people to death with his fists and claiming his power is maximum.[160]
    • During another minicomic special, Kajika removed all of Broly's evil from his being, thus making him into a gentleman who wishes to challenge Goku in a more diplomatic setting.[161]
    • According to Salagir, Broly is the fourth Legendary Super Saiyan to appear throughout history.[162] Two of his direct predecessors were Brasca and Romanesco, respectively the second and third Legendary Saiyans.[155][163]
    • Broly is one of Salagir's favorite characters.[164][165]
